Outgoing Erasmus Students and travel grant students: Italian and Spanish

Target group and entry requirements
The courses are intended for outgoing Erasmus students and travel grant students with no prior knowledge of the language.

Aims and content
The aim is to offer a survival kit for Spanish or Italian by focussing on:
  • Basic grammar
    • Verbs, syntax, connectors, etc.

  • Basic vocabulary
    • common themes and vocabulary from everyday life and from the academic world: a lot of attention will be given to collocations and idiomatic language
      • the organisation of the academic year, buildings, lecture halls , notice boards etc.
      • student life, leisure activities
    • vocabulary for presentations (e.g. enumerations, linking words)
      • computer (basic), mobile phones, media, communication, etc.
      • language-specific formulas and vocabulary (imparare (IT); ser-estar (SP), ...)

  • Communicative activities
    • much attention will be given to reading and listening skills
      • passive rather than active knowledge will be elaborated
      • exploration of tools and strategies to improve linguistic skills
      • the four language skills will be covered:
        • reading skills: articles from newspapers and magazines
            • listening skills: video materials will be used to practise understanding and summary writing, so that students will be able to attend lectures in a foreign language
        • speaking skills: practising pronunciation, socialising, giving opinions, etc.
        • writing skills: correct spelling, taking notes, writing short summaries

Online registration is possible from 15 May 2012 to 31 August 2012.

€ 130, without course notes
Registration is valid upon receipt of payment. The courses will only be held if sufficient students have registered.

Exam and Certificate
At the end of the course, students take an exam and obtain a certificate that they can add to their Erasmus portfolio.

Schedule

  • First course: September 2012,
    40 hours, 4 hours a day (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) from Monday 3 September to Friday 14 September 2012, with final test on Friday 14 September 2012.
    In September courses will be held at the ILT, Dekenstraat 6 .

  • Second course: March - Easter holiday (week 1) 2013
    • Italian:
      • 7 evenings in March: from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
      • first week of Easter holiday

      • first week of Easter holiday
